Information

The evolution of digital signatures has progressed from traditional local signing methods, where cryptographic keys were stored and used on personal devices or hardware tokens, to advanced remote signing models that enable secure, centralized, and scalable management of signature keys through trusted service providers. This shift has been driven by the need for enhanced usability, regulatory compliance, and stronger assurance in digital identity ecosystems. Remote signing solutions, often aligned with international standards such as ETSI and eIDAS, provide higher levels of trust while supporting mobile and cloud-based environments. Looking forward, the emergence of quantum computing poses significant challenges to current cryptographic foundations, prompting the transition towards post-quantum digital signature schemes. These schemes aim to ensure long-term resilience against quantum attacks while maintaining interoperability and efficiency, marking the next critical phase in the digital signature landscape.
